Description:Ultimately responsible for the timely, cost effective and successful execution of the design engineering aspects of projects introducing new products and major enhancements to existing products. Provide leadership in the area of gas-fired furnace technology.
Duties:• Organize, facilitate, and lead various team meetings in the development and/or support of manufactured products.

• Present information formally and informally to all levels of the organization.

• Utilize the Nordyne new product development process (PDIP).

• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, track progress.

• Support the development of product and project specifications.

• Support the development of technical sales literature.

• Prepare and deliver detailed status reports in management reviews.

• Evaluate component parts against safety, performance and cost requirements.

• Coordinate, guide and/or lead the engineering activity distributed amongst one or more locations including design center located off-shore. Design activities include CAD modeling, drawing development, performance simulations, laboratory testing, safety and performance code compliance, thermal systems design, control systems design, component selection and qualification.

• Lead performance certification function with AHRI.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Education and Experience
Four-year degree, BS Mechanical Engineering, or the equivalent.

Minimum five years experience in a product design engineering role with at least three years in the design of gas-fired consumer durable goods, preferably gas-fired residential furnace products.

Preference given to those candidates:
• Possessing or pursing an advanced degree.

• Have a project management certification.

• Can demonstrate successful management of new product development.



Skills and Abilities
• Solid knowledge of residential and light commercial equipment and business.

• Expert knowledge of gas combustion engineering methods and best practices especially in residential heating applications using atmospheric burners in induced draft systems.

• Practical and theoretical understanding of refrigerant-based heating and cooling, electric heat, air-moving devices, electromechanical controls, sheet-metal design and fabrication.

• Expert knowledge in ANSI Z21 safety standards, especially Z21.47.

• Knowledge and experience with a robust product development process and the product development life cycle.

• Experience with continuous improvement processes, Six Sigma, etc.

• Basic understanding of bill of material and ERP system principles.

• MS Office proficiency including PowerPoint and Project.

• CAD and illustration skills a benefit, but not required.
